The essay concerns Act II, scene three in The Tragedy of Macbeth, in which the murder of King Duncan by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is succeeded by Macduff and Lennox knocking at the gate of the castle. ![]() They are: Macduff: Could become King if he killed King Duncan and Macbeth. There are also a few more people who could have committed the murder for one reason or another, although they are not prime suspects. Macbeth: The Old Man suspected Macbeth because he had motive to kill and become King. ![]() After his body was discovered ( Macduff was the one to see him first), Macbeth admitted to killing the guards because he thought they were… Then they moved on to kill the king himself. Macbeth and his wife first killed King Duncan’s guards, so that nobody could see what they were about to do. In real life, Duncan led a military incursion into Macbeth’s territory, and was killed in fair combat by Macbeth or one of Macbeth’s soldiers. Macbeth cold bloody murdered King Duncan in his sleep because he was cruel and ambitious and wanted to be king himself. Macbeth became king of Scotland in 1040 after killing the ruling King Duncan I in battle. The historical Macbeth was a Scottish warlord who lived from 1004 to 1057. Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth is not itself a true story, but many of the figures and events in the play are rooted in real history. His body was buried in the holy isle of Iona, where many other Scottish kings were buried. On August 15, 1057, Macbeth was killed at the Battle of Lumphanan in Aberdeenshire by Malcolm’s men as he tried to return to Moray. At the end of the play in Act V, Macduff kills and beheads Macbeth, thus fulfilling a prophecy that was told to Macbeth and others. It dramatizes the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. He was born by way of Caesarean section, so was not born in the normal sense of the word. True to the Witches’ prediction, he is not of woman born. Macduff fights and kills Macbeth by decapitating him. Upon returning to Scotland, Macduff confronts Macbeth and kills him. Later his wife, Lady Macduff, was murdered by Macbeth. After Macbeth murdered Duncan, it was Macduff who discovered the body. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth dies at the hands of Macduff, a nobleman and the Thane of Fife.
